This is how it ends.

Well.. that goblin invasion force arrived.  All ten of them.  First lets look at my defensive upgrades.  When that weregiraffe showed up we lost a lot of people at the fishing hole.  Considering that is where most of our food comes from I couldn't stop the fishing but I could make it safer.  I built a giant wooden cabin around the fishing hole and even gave it a roof.

It even has a full roof overtop of it and when that door is locked there is a stairscase down to a long tunnel that leads back in to our fort.  I stuck a few beds in in incase someone gets tired and even dug them their own well for drinking.

Now behold my awesome plan!!  The purple arrow is the route the goblins will have to walk to get inside.  Or try before they are caught in my traps! muhaha. ... yah.

Ofcourse... it didn't go according to plan.  Stupid plan.  Look at that picture... can YOU see where I fucked up?

Anyways... the end result was that the goblins got in and murdered everyone.  We all died.  Over 50 babies/children.. all of us.. everyone.  I took one snapshot... Here you go...  all of the red stuff, that's blood.  All those miscoloured dwarves.. those are corpses.  So yeah.  This is how it ends.

Or is it.....

Winter has arrived

Well...  I didn't get around to updating with all that other stuff happening.  Drakhen has been in the hospital for about 6 months but isn't dead so I am hopeful he will recover.  He lost his entire left arm though.  This makes me sad.

Other news... Brogo keeps visiting but never staying long.  The vampire struck yet again but this time he screwed up.  About 7 people have reported him as the culprit.  We could easily convict him but then we might have to deal with an angry vampire.  And... that's not exactly something i can handle right now because we are totally... Under Siege!!

A small invasion force of goblins has arrived.  We still have NO standing army of any kind.  I am hoping we can just lock the doors and wait them out.  Maybe the traps will help but I don't think I have near enough of them.

I'll update when I can with the results of this invasion and how my meager defenses hold up.

A Titan Beast Has Arrived... and Someone Important Might Die!

Behold my clickbait title.. but unfortunately it might be true.  Behold the arrival of the Tundra Titan!!  I had taken some steps to make us safer but I hadn't thought the game would throw a flying beast at us so soon.  While I was scrambling to fidn a way to close up the entrances from the topside.. the thing swooped in on the trading depot where we had a visiting delegation.  Luckily this beast wasn't so tough and a guard there was able to fight it and kill it.  it took him a little while... but before it was over Drakhen decided to wander in to the fray and got himself bitten.

Remember that bit in his description about a poisonous bite? yeah... so.. Drakhen was knocked unconcious and lost his left arm.  Jim Shapiro carried him to the hospital and today's fake doctor of the week is trying to diagnose him now.  Drakhen is unconcious.. numb.. and has a fever now.  So.. waiting to see if he dies or not.  I'm not very hopeful.

Vampire Shenanigans

Taking this time today to look a little closer at our wonderful mayor.  Feature piece!!

So our vampire mayor killed again.  This time he had the balls to go on over to Yumi and report the crime himself.  He accused someone else in the town.. A poor guy who arrived here a full year after the first vampire murder.

So he is a crafty guy who kills people and tries to blame the crime on others.  Meanwhile he is our mayor.  It looks like this surprised even him.  Lets take a look at what little we know about this guy.  Keep in mind that some of his profile will be outright lies.  It doesn't mention his vampireness or the poor people he has murdered.  But if we take a look we can see a few mentions of his history that have slipped through.  Pretty clear he's been around a lot longer than the age listed in his immigration papers.

Former Lord of the Just League (would have been so much better if it was the Justice League!) and the Warlord of the Coalition of Books??  (Conan the Librarian?)

So.. I'm leaving him in power for now... Not quite sure what to do with him just yet.  But.. I didn't want him to think we fell for his ploy so I've placed a statue... right in his bedroom.  Just to let him know that SOMEone round here knows his dirty secret.

Tongiht I am going to upgrade to the newer version of DF.  This will apparently fix the bug for that poor woman trapped in a crafting station for two years.  Also it should let me craft the items I wanted for the Tomb of Elianna Moonhaven.  It should be an epic tomb ofcourse.  Maybe once we can make nice solid gold furniture we can deck out our rooms properly too.

Dwarven Justice

dwarven justice.... 3 outstanding crimes.. two of which were vampiric murders... I know who the culprit is but im afraid to accuse him.  Yumi might get killed trying to do something stupid like arrest the undead mayor/former warlord.

But there was the crime of destruction of public property by the werebeast guy.... i decided to convict him and see what would happen.

Deputy Luna was dispatch to beat him senseless for his crime.  I let him out of his room.. too good, had to see what happens.  she found him in a hallway and beat him halfway to hell.  Crushed his hand and knocked him out cold.

Luna's thoughts on the matter
Eventually he woke up and I got him back in his room.  After that I locked the door and walled over it like I did the hospital.  Some people, including Tiny Belan, are upset that Elianna's body has been left to rot but I just can't open that door until we have some proper soldiers.  With weapons... and armor.

Don't feel sorry for him.  He used to be Thob.. now he's jsut a cursed beast.  His kind killed Elianna.

The Vampire Exposed!

In the aftermath of the carnage there was a lot to clean up.  Or in this case, wall over.  I built a small wall over the door leaving the poor infected fool inside.  The other one is locked in his room where I am hoping he will be safe.  This is a temporary arrangement because I'm starting to think it will be fun to have a werebeast or two around.

So during this confusing time the vasmpire struck again.  Yumi Scruumi was supposed to be on this case but the new victim was a shocker... it was the mayor!!  Mr Vucar Shorastgiken!!  The very same dwarf who took over the local leadership from Yumi Scruumi!!

His poor wife discovered him drained of blood.  A new mayor was voted in immediately.  Here is where it gets messy.. The new mayor... is the vampire!  (What a twist!!))

All hail our new vampiric overlord?  Or... should Yumi try arresting this undead fiend?  What do we do now??  I'm leaving him in power for now.. my first priority is to shore up our defenses and put the werebeasts in a safer place.  But... any thoughts on this vampire?  I'm thinking of leaving him and the werebeasts at the bottom of a very deep pit.  And maybe dropping some future enemies on them.

Oh Dear God...

I thought I would keep an eye on those survivors.. but it looks like the next full moon came a lot quicker than I realized.  I had a hospital built and the four people injured in the wearbeast attack were in there with the closest thing I have to a doctor.  And one other person.  Poor Eliana Moonhaven.  It seems when I opened a hospital she decided to run on in and get that thing she used to call a hand looked at.
The doctor was the first to go.
4 new weregiraffes.  Three of them were in the hospital.  I tried to get Eliana to run out but she didn't last more than a second.  Behold the last moments of Eliana Moonhaven.

I promise I didn't lock the door to the hospital until after she was dead.  Two of the three remaining werebeasts started tearing each other apart.  The 3rd just watched.  the fourth was outside and luckily wasn't within range of anyone else.  I waited it out and hoped they would transform back before they remembered that they are stronger than my doors.

In the end we have 2 werebeasts... a hospital drenched in blood and severed body parts.  I decided to wall over the door to the hospital and locked the other guy back in his room after he transformed back in to a dwarf.  We lost some good people and I don't know how we are going to get to Eliana's body for a proper burial.

Next post... the vampire returns!

Death!

Break out the coffins.  A weregiraffe!  Seriously.. that thing tore those poor fishermen apart.  Arowz was nearby but managed to survive unscathed.  Physically anyways.  Mentally there are a lot of troubled dwarves.

Here is a snapshot of how it started.  The right is one elevation above the left.  he is looking down on the fishing pond and he is hungry.

I don't want to write a book on this but 3 dead and atleast 3 injured.  I'm a bit worried that this wearbeast plague has spread to the survivors.

I discussed this with Wade and he suggested I send out his deputy as he himself would be too busy with important administration work.  It was a comedy of errors as I sent Luna Soulchild out to fight but somehow managed to send her without any ammunition.  Luckily the beast had stopped clawing people apart and was now beating them with a nice soft shoe.  I almost wonder if the cursed human inside exerted some small bit of control to stop the carnage. (nah, probably a bug)  Then he turned back in to a human.  Luna chased the terrified human all across the map 3 times until she finally caught up with him.  In the scuffle she managed to beat him to death with her crossbow so it was atleast somewhat useful.

So we survived.. but at what cost?

Vampire struck again and our first real threat arrives

Poor Kib Morulmonom the miner was attacked in her bedroom one night.  She awake on the verge of death, pale and drained of most of her blood.  She has been so shaken she has been unable to work and is given to bouts of panic.  I was again unable to determine the identity of this attacker but it is only a matter of time before they slip up.

In the mean time... this has happened.

Murder Most Foul!!

A body has been discovered!

Bur Mengkonos was discovered dead in his room.  I suspected the first dwarf I saw near the room.. A farmer who I spotted running away with all of Bur's belongings.  But all he did with them was drop them in storage for anyone to use and then he went to a party.  I've locked him in his room just in case though.  A couple moved in to the bedroom and slept in the bed with the corpse.  I'm hoping that is a bug and not a sign of something icky.

I designated a place for bodies to be stored and lo and behold it was Yumi Scruumi who took it upon themselves to carry the body up all those flights of stairs.

It seems we need to start getting some law enforcement started.  With Yumi not leading the village anymore (we've upgraded to village!) she has a lot of free time....  Quick explanation:

Kylesghost: from the wiki
Kylesghost: "The captain of the guard leads the fortress guard, which, alongside its regular military duties, aids in the enforcement of justice by capturing criminals and delivering beatings"
Wade: beatings!
Kylesghost: indeed
Kylesghost: im just looking to give this guy a burial first.  not sure where i want the coffins to go for this fort.  not near the Founders floor. we're special
Wade: flush him
Wade: he was a nobody!
Kylesghost: unburied dead come back as ghosts that chop off limbs.
Kylesghost: we bury this fucker first.
Wade: Sheesh

And so a new burial chamber was arranged, the coffin filled and the body dumped.  er.. interred.  Yumi has been assigned the new rank of Captain of the Guard.  I also decided to appoint Luna Soulchild as his plucky deputy.

It was while the body was being carried by Yumi that we received a rather ominous update.

That's right.  The milker had been milked! ... of blood. ..er..  ok, so there's a vampire.  We have pretty much no weapons and no sure idea who the vampire or vampires are.  And the only ones who can save us are Yumi Scruumi and Luna Soulchild.

Winter has begun.

Monkey goes pop!

So some of those grey langur's harassed the gang at the ole fishing hole.  So they chased it down and beat the shit out of it.  One of the few times you could actually watch some action in DF.  I saw 3 dwarves running after the monkey and then suddenly an explosion of bodyparts.  Look at all these teeth!

One of the other monkeys was punched in the head by one Luna Soulchild.  (edit!) As has Eliana Moonhaven.  One handed ofcourse.  (edit x3) Arowz did it too now!

Sad news is Brogo the kobold got away again.  I feel like Wile E. Coyote vs the Road Runner.  The great wall is complete on the top floor and the animals seem quite safe up there for now.

Summer 252.

Work on my Great Wall has gone alright.  Had a bit of a problem as giant parrots called kea kept stealing the blocks of stone.(not to be confused with Ikea)  These things must be huge.

Yumi does not seem to mind the results of the election.  She continues to work as the manager for the fort, making sure everyone does things as efficiently as possible.

Summer has just arrived and Brogo the theif dropped by yet again.  4th time now if I'm counting right.  I think I'm going to try putting a bunch of cage traps out there and see if we can catch him.  Any idea what to do with him if we do?

The elven traders visited again.  This time I avoided any wood related merchandise and traded them some statues instead.  In exchange we got a bit of food.  It seemed a good way to get rid of some ugly statues.

Last but not least we have more alpacas in the fort... Kesu's alpaca has grown up and given birth to a new baby alpaca.  I am not renaming the guild hall to Fort Alpaca despite her insistence.

Year 2 complete

Spring of the year 252.  2 years in and things have progressed a bit.  No real threats have appeared yet but I am doing my best to secure the fort before trouble arrives.  And it will arrive.

Currently the population stands at 55 citizens and 19 animals.  This includes 4 children and 7 babies.  The baby who kept crawling away form the fort (probably due to a bug) grew up to be a healthy child.  He will still hold on to his nickname of Baby'sDayOut though.  That woman who took over the crafting station a year ago is still down there.  Another bug I am afraid.  She gave birth to a second baby.  The 9 month old is still clinging to her back but the newborn is being ignored entirely.  This new stray baby has been nicknamed Strayby.

We have been upgraded from outpost to hamlet now.  Our expedition leader Yumi Scrumi served us well for 2 years but now we have a mayor.  The new mayor was elected by all of the citizens.  His name is Vucar Shorastgiken.  He has lived here for 6 months and works as a fish dissector.  Yumi continues to work as the local manager.  Broker Jim Shapiro appeared unfazed by the recent change.

Time for some updated screenshots of the fort.  The entranceway has not changed much since we moved in.  All of our animals tend to be kept just outside.  There is no pen so when they get spooked by monkeys we have to go drag them all back.  A bit of a pain.

One floor up is the food area.  Looking at the picture you can see both inside and out but remember none of these indoor areas connect to the outside except via that front door downstairs.

If you go up another couple of floors you get on top of this hill we've burrowed in to.  I've flattened it out a bit and hope to build a fortress wall around it.  Later we can keep our animals here in a bit of a safer area and maybe do some outside farming.  This might all end in disaster though.  In the northern corner you can see a dark hole of an area... That is the place that claimed Eliana's hand.

The only other area to see changes was the general population's bedroom zone.  34 bedrooms and a nice gathering hall for parties.  Next step.. I need somewhere to put the coffins.  That woman has to die eventually.

Disaster!

With the recent monkey attacks causing trouble I decided to start work on our defenses.  That pesky kobold has been by a couple more times too.  So I went to work sculpting the hillside to our advantage.  Unfortunately today we had a cave-in.  Drakhen and Eliana were both knocked unconcious.  Drakhen seems to have survived unscathed by Eliana has lost the use of her right hand.

I'm happy to say it hasn't slowed her down too much.  She's back to work swinging her mining pick with her left hand.

Monkeys!

A pack of Grey Langur monkeys raided the camp and stole what little ammunition we had left for our crossbows.  In retaliation our hunting dog ripped one apart.  Then while the hunting dog scrapped with another a Mr Jim Shapiro went out to drag the dog back to his spot outside the door.  What happened next... well, it got messy.

Hapanzee Birthday Mother Fucker.

Lost track of time... the people keep coming

Population jumped to 43 including 5 babies/children.  Not all parents are acting responsibly.  I spotted one baby crawling around in the woods alone.  It managed to see one of our hunters kill a chinchilla so.. good education I guess.  The kobold came by again in the early summer... but no sign since all these migrants showed up.

36 extra people and I had 7 spare beds after the ones reserved for the proper Fragile Dragons.  I've started digging in a bunch of rooms and getting Tiny Belen to crank out as many doors and pieces of furniture as he can.  He even crafted his first masterworks.  A very nice obsidian door and a cabinet.

So far we have had no deaths.  We have survived on fishing and farming aswell as the luck of our newer hunters.  Behold the dead so far:

But I have an empty coffin on standby.  The mother of that first baby born in the fort has gone quite crazy trying to craft a legendary item.  It looks like she will fail and most likely die of starvation.

Summer

That pesky kobold Brogofobrulgin tried to sneak in again.  Stealthy little bugger... I hope he hasn't actually succeeded in sneaking off with anything.

Also some elves arrived to trade from the elven land of Lini Cifano "The Cat of Angish"... but Mr Shapiro pissed them off by offering them goods in a wooden barrel.  This offended them because we turned a once beautiful tree in to a horrible bauble.  They left in a huff... but I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be enough to go to war over.  I hope.  Because really, our only protection right now is Luna.

I had commissioned some statues to be made in hopes of trading them with the elves.  They ended up in storage.  I went to take a look and found this beauty.  I'm considering putting it in Yumi's room.

In other news a pair of the settlers were married and have had a baby.  Let us welcome the fortresses first child, sideburns and all, Mr Sibrek Likotbasen.

I started digging in some rooms for our other dwarves.  I figured 8 more rooms would be plenty.  Then more migrants showed up, clamoring for our wealth and free food.

The picture doesn't do it justice.. There were 13 in all including 2 kids and another baby.  The baby crawling along slowly in the stream trying to keep up is quite comical.  I'll dig out some more rooms.

Spring Has Arrived

Year one complete.  Aside from that thief nothing really eventful happened since last update.  I've expanded the lodgings a bit though creating a floor just for The Founders.  It will of course be called Founders Hall where there will be nice large bedrooms for each guild member, perhaps expanded dining rooms later... offices.. and eventually our tombs.

Back upstairs a nice little underground farm and food prep area has been installed.  It will later be expanded to include a butcher shop I think.  Arowz has been fishing and cooking up some pond turtle biscuits, plump helmet roast, and nice rainbow trout stew.

Workshops have come a little ways.

The barracks above are still boring but we did get that well installed without drowning anyone.

A Kobold Comes To Visit

So we had a visit from a kobold thief who managed to get close to the door but not inside the fort.  I think the hunting dog I have set outside discovered him.  Mental note, get more dogs.

Kesu Strangevision has Arrived!

I carefully went through those new arrivals... I knew she had to be in there somewhere.  The only single female was the carpenter so I quickly changed her name appropriately.  Kesu had arrived.  Then I read over her profile and found a few scary things I hadn't seen on any other dwarf profile.

A little scary but I figured I would leave it as is...  I then decided to be cute and try assigning the baby alpaca as her pet.  It was already done!  :o  Clearly this was meant to be.

Day 2

A quick recap.  7 brave adventurers have set forth on behalf of the great dwarven kingdom of Tellistas. (Translates as 'The Infallible Cave')  This group of 7 called their expedition force Inglazmamgoz  (Translates as Fragiledragons) and they settled and struck the earth naming their new home.  Welcome to the outpost Iton Domas, "The Hall of Guilds".

Jim Shapiro managed to trade away some of those shiny gold rocks for some food so we should have enough to feed the seven founders and these three new slackers that showed up.

The barracks we put together with 7 beds and 6 chairs might be a bit cramped but we should be fine... except.. well shit.  More people showed up.

And I shit you not... They brought 2 goats, a lamb, 2 baby llamas and... one baby alpaca.  It is quite clear that one of these people is Kesu Strangevision in disguise.

So Qualified

The season continued... much too quickly.  A liason from the homeland arrived with 3 new members.  Everyone of our founding members was bitchy due to lack of beds, chairs etc.  So we put together a few crafting stations.  Jim and Tiny Belen whipped up some chairs, tables, beds... nothing fancy yet.  Oh and a couple of doors so we can close the front up if we suddenly face an invasion.  I'm not feeling too confident in Luna Soulchild's ability to protect us.

Yumi Scruumi conducted a meeting with the liason that seemed to go well.  The entirety of our communicated needs seemed to be "send us more booze".  Good job.

Only thing left was to use that trading post with the visiting merchants...  After careful consideration of his overwhelming skills (see screenshot) I had to assign the task to Mr Jim Shapiro.
